Some interesting caveats

A caveat on this quick review: I haven't actually seen the machine, but I can tell you something that disturbs me just a little bit.
In my use of an older G3 system (one of those old-fashioned "platinum" systems), I found that successful video capture and playback via FireWire required two disk drives, one for the operating system and the other for capture. When I used only one drive for both functions, I had somewhat erratic capture and extremely choppy playback.
Now, Apple's selling this machine for video editing, and I'm not sure if it would work well without at least some decent external storage option. You should be able to use a FireWire drive, but that technology is in its infancy and still a bit pricey. Be sure to add the cost of the FireWire drive to the iMac system and compare it to a G3 or G4 desktop (which can use multiple IDE drives) before you make your final decision.
Most video editing software I've used really comes alive at a minimum 1024x768 resolution. I think the iMac's 15" monitor can do that resolution, but your eyes would thank you for a bigger monitor.
Note that I very strongly endorse Apple for DV editing in general; this is just a concern about the iMac specifically.
Note that I've given the machine 5 stars because I think it's a fine product strictly on the merits, but might disappoint anyone looking at a really serious, industrial strength video editing solution.
