Excellent, but behind the times.
Pros
Small size, excellent feeling keyboard, simple design, stylish.
Cons
Loud fan, flimsy CD tray, abbreviated keyboard.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
iMacs make excellent computers, but my advice is to hold out and get the later versions (350MHz+) for the convection cooling and slot loading CD-ROM.
-This is a great machine. I had one for 2 1/2 years and enjoyed my time with it. But after using super quiet laptops and quiet desktops, my time with it grew annoying due to a loud case fan. Which is why the later models ditched the fan and used a convection cooled system.
-I also had my CD tray latch break. Rather than pay $40 for an entire new tray, I just put a pin inside the emergency ejector hole to jam it closed. It worked! The CD worked fine. But this flaw is why Apple left it in favor of the slot loading.
-The keyboard lacked a delete key and other buttons, but you get used to highlighting and using the backspace key instead. I could've used the Apple Pro keyboard which does not abbreviate, but how do they justify the outrageous price? $65 last I looked.
-I didn't like the hockey puck mouse either. One button might have been good when the Mac was introduced in 1984, but now consumers need more than one to move faster and make the best use of our time at the computer. I also had the rollers in the mouse squeak a bit, but nothing careful oiling couldn't solve.
