Pros
Slim size, large screen, long battery life, easy to use, great sound and video quality
Cons
None
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Portable, feature-rich, great audio and video quality, durable, large screen - a great MP3 player for just about anyone
I just got my first iPod as a Christmas gift. Yeah, I know - I'm a little late to the MP3 party, but better late than never. Seriously, I am lovin' this, and it has made my subway commutes something I truly look forward to. Best of all, for a non-techie like me, it was simple to set up, and even easier to use.
Since this is my first iPod I can't compare it to other versions. But take a look at the full features the iPod Nano offers:
~ Product Description
- 8 GB storage capacity
- 2000 songs
- Built-in memory
- 16 kbps - 320 kbps
- Frequency reponse 20Hz - 20,000 Hz
- 640 x 480 max video resolution
- 2 inch screen size
- Rechargeable lithium battery
- Battery life up to 24 hrs.!
And check out the awesomely small size: 1.5 in width, 3.6 in. height, and a slim 0.24 thick. It weighs only 1.3 oz.
This is available in several pleasing chomatic colors - the one I have is the pink, which is a sort of hot candy-pink color.
It comes with basic earbuds, no case. Look around for the best prices, anywhere from $130 to $160.
This model features cover flow, so you can see the album covers as you search for what you want to listen to. It also has a moving orientation from portrait to landscape, depending on how you're holding the iPod. Way cool.
You can download podcasts, videos, audiobooks, and pictures, in addition to music. The iPod Nano Chomatic also has easy-to-use playlists - just use the center button to add a song you are listening to to your playlist.
There are some pretty fun games included, which also utilize the moving orientation depending on how you're holding the iPod.
~ My Experience
Since I'm an iPod newbie, I can only share my experience with this model, as I don't know how it compares to older ones.
Screen and Viewing - I can definitely say that the screen size, and the color and definition is amazing! It almost looks like hi-def or something to me. The colors are very rich, the clarity is stunning, and although the iPod is slim and small, the 2-in screen size is totally adequate. I've watched an entire 30-minute podcast, on the subway, and it worked beautifully.
I haven't been using a case for this, and I keep it in my pocket a lot of time, or throw it in my purse. So far the screen hasn't scratched, although fingerprints are always there, but whattayagonnado about that....they wipe off. The back and body of the iPod seems scratch resistant as well, and the hot pink chromatic color hasn't been scratched.
Earbuds - In the past I've had trouble with earbuds not staying put in my ears. I have small ears I think. Or the earbuds haven't been comfortable. Fortunately the earbuds that came with my iPod are comfortable and stay in my ears. I completely forget I'm wearing them most of the time. The sound comes out evenly between them.
Sound Quality - I'm not an audiophile, and this is my first iPod, but I'm happy with the sound quality. I really can't comment more than that - turn it up, or turn it down, it all sounds good to me.
Controls - I was worried that there would be a steep learning curve, but yay! such was not the case. I am used to using computers, and I found the iPod nano intuitive and easy to use right from the git-go. The dial control will turn the volume up or down. Press Menu to go back. Press the center button to select. It is a snap to use, and I can find whatever I want to listen to, or watch, with ease.
I like the ability to create playlists of my favorite songs, and I use that feature a lot. Just press and hold the center button to add a song to your playlist.
Battery Life - I haven't put it to the 24 hour test, but it's gotta be close. I can use this for hours and the battery doesn't go down much. This is a very good thing, and a real plus for the iPod Nano.
The iPod Nano's slim size allows you take it anywhere, as it fits easily into even a tight pocket. This is great for the gym, airplanes, running, traveling. It seems to be durable as I haven't tried to baby it.
~ Final Thoughts
After receiving my iPod Nano Chromatic as a Christmas gift I have become a serious fan, and can't think of a bad thing to say about this. GO GET ONE NOW!
