Tempted to skimp? Don't It's ipod or nothing!

Pros Size and ease of use are the biggest plus.
Cons Not cheap, and unknown battery life and replaceablility.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  There are cheaper ways to take your music with you, but I'm not sure there are easier or better ways to do so.  I'm thrilled with my choice.
All right, I admit it, I was really tempted to buy some other MP3 player.  I'm not an "Apple" guy, and I hate paying for a name.  There are lots of other MP3 devises out there and for $150, you can get almost twice the capacity of the Nano for the same money.

That said I spoke with some tech savy freinds, read alot of reviews, and ended up buying the 8 gb silver ipod Nano.  I did alot of shopping, and found that no one really discounts these things.  You can save a few bucks on "reconditioned" ones, but not alot.  What you can do however is find a bundle that adds some accesories.

I found a 7 in 1 bundle that included the 8 gb silver Nano, a pritective sleeve, a two way output splitter (so two can listen) an AC wall charger, a car charger, an FM modulator so you can listen through a radio, and some screen protectors.  Price was $149.00, and that was the same as the ipod alone.  I've seen other bundles that include things like a listening dock, etc...

Locally, the bundle I picked is available at Staples and Amazon, but I ended up buying on ebay, got free shipping and saved sales tax.

The funtionality of the Nano is easy to learn, and fairly intuitive.  The itunes website is easy to set up, and I've been able to download over 500+ of my CD's so far.  Setting up folders and playlists allows me to set my Nano up for the day, and I really enjoy the ability to take my "library" with me.  I had been burning "mix" CD's, but you are limited to 1 hour each.  The Nano allows many more times the capacity, and limitless changes.  This unit has the "genius" feature that if you choose, itunes will select songs that "go together".  I haven't enabled this feature, and I haven't purchased any songs from the itunes store.

Battery life is great.  I usually forget to sync every day, and have easily gone 2-3 days on one charge.  I'd guess you could get almost 24 hours from a charge. I drive several hundred miles a day, and even bring it into the office to listen during the day.  I'm a little leary about what happens when the battery ultimetly gives up as there is no way to change it.  I hope that by that time the technology will be far enough along that buying a new devise makes sense.  Perhaps you will be able to send the ipod back to Apple for a new battery, I simply don't know.

This is my first ipod/MP3, so I have no other experience to base my opinions on.  But based on some of the stories I've read, these things are pretty idiot proof.  It seems like Apple really has the market cornered on these things, and they have the applications to support them.  The fact that "ipod" has become synomous with these small portable listening devises speaks volumes.

As I stated earlier, I was tempted to go cheap, but I'm very pleased I didn't.  I was a little tempted to go with a bigger capacity, but so far 8 gb is plenty for me.
