DO NOT BUY THIS - Even patched it is a piece of crap
Pros
Lots of inputs... if only I could rely on it to record decently.
Cons
Poor support, worse performance. Don't bother with it.
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
do not even think about it, Grade A Lemon.
I ordered this through www.walmart.com debating between the two models given, I looked at the ports on the website and thought this would be sweet.
It took a little bit of work getting it all hooked up and some of the settings where less than ideal or typical (Like the optical out being disabled unless you enable it etc) I put a direct line for analog and used RCA cables to connect my Digeo MOXI (kinda like TIVO)
First off, the video quality using the exact same cable I had used to connect the MOXI to my Home Theater went down when viewed through the Aspire, tieling the image a little in very similar colors.
Second - pre patch it locked up recording anything over 30 minutes, especially if you paused the recording during commercials. Post patch this behaved better, however just as I thought it was working great, it locked up AGAIN.
When it locks up - you lose the disk, if your using an RW you can reformat it, but if your using a +R you now own a coaster. Any previously saved shows are now GONE... This is definitely a STEP BACK, who'd expect DIGITAL RECORDING to do something WORSE than Analog. All in all I've had this in my house for approx 48 hours and I'm ready to return it.
