The Bottom Line:
Buy this if you are looking for max performance for the dollar.
This product is mislabeled -- it's a preamp, not a two-channel amp. Did away with vinyl recordings and analog tape, switched to CD and then to streamed digital. For several years, used a high-quality switchbox with a volume control to connect line-level inputs to power amps, set the amp input matching controls to limit max volume. Called the switchbox a "passive pre-amp", in deference to those who spend a lot to achieve pretty much the same result. It worked fine as long as there was only one listening zone in the house, but we added a couple more, and the situation became a bit complicated. Decided it might be nice to have a box with multiple outputs, tone, balance, and volume controls. Looked at a number of models, and they had either or both of a) an outrageous price, b) too many bells and whistles. Then I saw this one. Checked the specs, and it seemed to fill the bill. Two outputs, no phono input, push-button input select, basic tone, balance, and volume control. Tried it, and it worked like a champ. It doesn't color the sound, attenuate either the high or low end, or inject noise. All-in-all, seems to be a solid, no-frills piece of equipment, if you don't want to listen to a turntable. And come on, it's the 21st century already... Anyhow, you could spend a whole lot more for no discernable improvement. Features I'd wish for: three or four selectable outputs, each with its own volume control; auto-on/input detect.
