The Bottom Line:
I do not recommend this unit to anyone until Audiovox corrects the problem. I cannot believe that even a cheap unit is so poorly constructed. This must change.
I bought two of these units from a nearby Meijer store recently and was surprised and very disappointed with the experience. I wanted an inexpensive car audio with a compact disk changer, but not too high a price. These Audiovox ACD-12 units came in blister pack form and a price of $70.00. It was a basic unit with a non-detachable face. It seemed like a very good deal. I tested the units before fitting them to the dashboard of my car. However, they both malfunctioned after inserting the first compact disk. The major problem being that the units refused to eject my compact disks. They both would switch to the radio rather than eject. The first unit bought also displayed an error message, "ERR000". I called the Audiovox technical support phone number concerning this error code and was told that it was a defective unit, and that it had to be returned to the company to extract the compact disk. Instead I took the loss of one of my compact disks and promptly returned it to the store for a identical unit in exchange. This replacement unit also had eject problems, but I managed to finally get the first CD inserted to eject by frequent use of the reset button and turning the unit power on and off several times. This unit was also returned, but now I considered alternatives. I bought a Sony unit and that has given me no problems. It also cost considerably more, something I didn't like, but quality does cost more.
I have heard of other Audiovox units that also have had significant functional and quality problems. I find this inexcusable for even a cheap unit should not malfunction right out of the package. I often wonder how Audiovox stays in business. I suspect that a good percentage of these cheap car CD/radio units are failing too frequently. This should not be acceptable, even for an inexpensive car in-dash CD player.
