Good unit but beware of volume levels

Pros Nice display, display scroll lets you set more than just stock quotes.
Cons High audio output for quite setting like an office when used with XB9 boom box.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  The XR9 combines all the features of the Delphi SkiFi2 in a unit not much bigger than the Delphi Roady2. Despite the XB9 volume problems, I'd recommend it to friends.
I recently purchased the XR9 as a replacement for a broken Delphi Roady2. The unit works fine but beware of the volume levels that can (or cannot) be adjusted. The unit has within its Menu, an Audio Options setting where you can adjust Equalizer Control and Volume Control. Within the Volume Control, you can adjust the volume output on a scale of 0 to 31. The supplied remote control can also be used to adjust the volume. However, even at 0, there is still a high enough volume that becomes a bit too loud to use in a quite office setting when used with the XB9 boom box. With the car kit, at least you cars radio volume can be turned down. Same if you use a home kit. But with the XB9 boom box, you lose the control. I've contacted Audiovox twice. While their Tech Support person was helpful, here is what they say:

My first calls answer was that the volume control on the unit is just to balance out the audio output so that when switching between the XR9 and your radio/CD, etc. there is no change in volume. Made sense. The volume controls on the boom box work the same volume control as the remote does, but I was told to use the remote and see what happens. He said it is most likely a bad boom box that I would need to replace. As I didn't have the remote with me at that time, I waited to bring it into work today. By the way, there is an AUX input, a nice addition, so I can hook up my MP3 player and play it over the boom box. The volume controls on the box worked so that I could lower the volume to nothing so I could play that in my office at least. I tried the remote with the XR9, and still the volume was too loud.

Second call to Audiovox went like this. I happened to speak to the same tech support person who remembered my previous days call. I told him about the volume working for the AUX input. But using the remote, volume buttons on the boom box, or the volume control on the unit, they all just operate the same 0 to 31 scale and 0 always is loud. After placing me on hold, he came back with the bad news. No it wasn't the boom box. Whoever he spoke to informed him that Audiovox was aware that you still get volume at the 0 setting, but they felt it was an acceptable low enough volume. Sorry guys, it isn't.
