Audiovox is not know as one of the top names in electronics! And it shows in this portable CD player! Or, should I say portable CD safe?
Confused? Let me explain: After having this player for only 3 months the opening mechanism jammed and it's locked shut with my CD inside! For the last 6 months I've been forced to listen to the same CD every time I turn the player on! (Luckily, it's my favorite CD!)
Now you may be thinking, "Ok, it ate your CD, but how does it perform?" Well, the answer is "Ok!" It's not great, but it's not the worst CD player I've ever seen!
The "40ESP" (40 second Electronic Skip Protection) is a joke! It's supposed to read 40 seconds ahead so that the player won't skip if it gets bumped or shaken. Well, this simply doesn't work! Sure it will take a little tilt or shake now and then. But, I had this thing sitting on the seat in my car and it skipped every time I hit the smallest pothole, curb, dog, or hot dog cart! (Ok, I never hit a dog or a hot dog cart! I had a Crazy Taxi flashback there! Sorry! hehe) The whole reason I wanted this portable CD player was to use in my car! What good is it if it won't work in my car?
The PLAY, FORWARD, REWIND, and PAUSE features all do what they are expected to do. The BASS BOOST is ok if you have decent headphones. I can't comment on the PROGRAM feature because I've never bothered to program the thing! Since it will only play my one CD I just hit REPEAT and let it go to town!
Battery life is another aspect I am unfamiliar with since I purchased both an AC adaptor and a car adaptor for the player! Using car power or standard electricity, this thing runs for as long as I want it to without every having to insert a battery! hehe
Overall, if the player would open and allow me to change the CD that's in it I may have given it a 3 (or possibly even 4) star rating! However, the single CD option drops this baby down to a feeble 2 stars! It's just not worth the trouble! Some day maybe I'll pry it open. But I'm sure that will destroy it completely, and then I'll be without a CD player at all!
If you need a good CD player, look elsewhere! If you need an acceptable, though potentially limited CD player, consider the CE145B.
