For vacations and such it's nice to be able to break the monotony of driving or flying (or train or bus) with a good movie. The Audiovox D1830 can provide such a break, though with quite a dent to your pocket book. But if it keeps the kids quiet it just might pay off! (hahaha!)
Audiovox is a big electronics maker. The D1830 is one of their portable DVD players. It is a decent machine. The D1830 features and 8" widescreen LCD that can play DVD, VCD, CD, CD-R/RW, and MP3 discs. It has Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 surround sound. The D1830 can be hooked up to a regular DVD player if for some reason you'd ever want to do that. Audiovox gives you composite inputs and outputs to let you hook up additional components. All in/outputs are minijack size (.125") so you'll need adapters. Of course, there's also S-video outputs, so you can hook up to a TV (at a hotel, friends house, etc.). It is very portable because it is surprisingly small and light even with the battery attached. Even though overheating isn't much of a problem it can be if you're running it for more than 3 hours or so. Long trips can tax it a bit. Give it a break every once in a while and try to keep it out of the sun.
Picture Quality: 8
Sound Quality: 8
Ease-Of-Use: 8

You should probably consider purchasing a carrying case because it doesn't come with one and they need a gentle ride. You want to be especially careful with the screen. If you have kids make sure they don't touch it, especially with nasty McDonald's Kids Meal covered hands.
Playback: slow motion, zoom, multiple angle viewing, and 20-track sequencing
Power: AC adapter or rechargeable lithium-ion battery (3 hours playback)
Remote: control all major functions from a distance with the palm-sized remote
What's Included: DVD player, remote control, battery for remote control, user's manual, stereo analog audio interconnect/composite-video cable, AC power adapter, rechargeable battery pack, vehicle power adapter.
Note: no headphones are included
Features:
= Plays DVD, VCD, CD, CD-R/RW and MP3s
= 8" LCD screen (16:9)
= 3-hr lithium-ion battery
= Dolby Digital, DTS 5.1, and Q-Surround outputs
= Remote Control
The Portable DVD Player For You?
For more portability than a laptop, try the Audiovox D1830...it's a great way to entertain kids or teens. Another great thing is that you can hook up a gaming system, which increases the D1830's entertainment value. Shop around though, you might find an equally nice portable DVD player at a lower price. The D1830 will satisfy your movie appetite on the go!
