I wish I knew how well they worked
I got this set of radios for Christmas. I have only ever got one radio to work at a time. They come with a set of batteries and one cell was dead. Since it was a gift, I don't have a receipt. I have contacted Audiovox customer service and here is what I have been told:

Good for the money
Mine work fine; I've used them with a group that meets around the country doing wildlife surveys. Everyone has their own equipment, and these have been able to get a signal out when some Midland's and Motorola's wouldn't. The batteries that came with mine hold a charge for about 2-3 days of use. Audiovox missed a Decimal
Works great for .5 miles and fuzzy to .75 miles and nothing after 1 mile. Flat ground with only regular houses and above ground power lines.

I have had no problem's with these Little Radio's Beside's Range They will work 5 mile's on water 3 on flat terrain and 1 in Mountain wood terrain, they work great fun to talk to just anyone in town Good little Radios. Read full review »
I bought junk radios
I, too, purchased a set of the 2 mile radios. They only carried about a 1/4 mile in a clear line! So, I purchased the 5 mile radios and only gained about an extra 200 to 300 feet more, if it was even that far. Don't waste your money like I did!
Definitely not worth the $30.00 I paid. These radios do not work properly, have no range, and are useless for communicating unless both radios are in the same room together. They do not have 5 mile range not even 2 miles.

not bad for the money
I paid $22 for a pair on sale. They worked great and have a lot of great features. I tried them around town and on the highway and got clear reception with out any static up to about 3/4 mile.
