The Bottom Line:
AvMap is the clearest unit I have seen
So far... this unit has the graphics portion hands down. I returned a unit which I purchased just two weeks prior, won't say the name... don't want to offend anybody, because it took an PC computer and not a Macintosh which is what I own. I wouldn't get the full use of the unit. I wasn't about to buy a pc just to use a gps... I will find something else, I said to myself.
So I found the AvMap IV. With the AvMap IV not only are the colors vibrant, text easy to read, waypoints, FSS Freq.'s, land elevation, etc... so crystal clear but it does not require a cumputer to load up the information. It is all on the CF card installed on the unit. No messing with software, border lines, items to place on the custom map or anything like that.
Some of these other units state "Buy & Fly" package. Or "for use in plane, car or boat". Be aware of those statements. I have found that the AvMap IV does just the same thing but they don't advertise it because for use in a car, neither one will provide turn by turn guiding. They only draw a straight line from one point to another. I would assume thats why the makers of AvMap do not advertise the use in a car.
But if you are looking for a GPS with clarity and selectibility of information to display at various zoom ranges on a large wonderful display.... look no further. AvMap IV is a wonderful unit to fly with.
