Bel helps avoid tickets...if you are not stupid

Pros Great Range, K &KA detection, size, display, warnings are loud, reliable, works great
Cons False on x band, cant switch it off, and no pointer to show radar direction
Recommended it? Yes
I purchased this detector to accompany me on my many miles around Nevada and Lake Tahoe. If anyone has driven around here CHP OR NHP really like to crack down on tourist speeding; snowing or not.

Nevada tends to use KA and often leave the radar on all the time. CHP tends to use K band and sometimes but not often, turn the guns off.

Driving around the lake are many turns and downhills that are hard to keep speed down. Speed limits are mainly 45-60 an as low as 20 mph. Getting a detector was a necessity after seeing numerous people get pulled over.

The BEL was my first choice. My second was the Val. One.
The Bel won out for its price and size.

The BEL has many features and has proven useful and reliable.

On long streches of Nevada desert driving it can detect K bands from miles away..literally miles. But remeber this is on a flat desert.

On winding forest roads (aka hwy 50, or 80) the detector does a great job of picking up signals around bends and curves. Radar will often bounce of mountian walls causing the detector to randomly pick up signals...but if does pick up SLOW DOWN!! 90 percent of the time it will be a cop around the corner. Someturns are so sharp you only have seconds after you pickup a signal to slow down.

Around city locals like SF or San Jose, falsing is a bit annoying but not that bad. The only bad thing about radar detectors in cities is that you really don't know were the cop is. A feature like Valentine one's pointer would be nice.

Laser??? yeah that works... unfortunetly if your detector goes off for laser, your already screwed 200 feet ago. You might as well just pull over and make it easy for the cop. Laser works only when the cop points it at you directly. I found out the hard way in Oregon

The mount is great too.. small and compact. the suction cups work well and last a long time.

People ask me if i drive like a maniac or speed alot since i have a detector... my answer is NO. The detector allows you to drive at a slightly higher pace then posted signs allow. What the detector doesn't allow you to do is drive around like the streets are your own racetrack. If you are drivng excessivily fast, from the time your detector goes off to when you can slow down might not be enough for a cop to notice. Detectors also are not guardian angels for bad driving, just because you know you can detect a cop on a rainy day doesn't mean you should speed.
Show-boaters, burnin-out, and wanna be Micheal Schumachers will probably be caught anyway.

PRO: great range, great at picking up K and KA, nice mount, small size, bright display, digital voice, many features, highly reliable, loud warnings...plain and simple it works how radar detectors should work.

Cons: Flases on X band, no way to turn off X-band, dim is still a little to bright for my taste.
