Greatest Laser/Radar detector!
Pros
Discreet, Great Range, inexpensive for Remote radar
Cons
possibly the lights in bright sunlight...
Recommended it?
Yes
I purchased the BEL remote radar/laser detector about 6 months ago for my new Monte Carlo SS. I must admit, I didn't expect as much as I have got!
I ordered the detector off the internet at wholesale cost ($250) which is easily $150 off the retail price. I received it and installed it myself the same day. The installation was very straight forward. I mounted the detector in the grill of the car, the laser detector is right in front of my rearview mirror (black on black mirror, unnoticable), and the display under the radio. This whole process, including wiring took less than an hour.
The performance of the BEL is outstanding. It has a city mode, and a ultra-sensitive highway mode. First of all, I'd like to say that I have never been pulled over with this unit, and if I would, the copper would never be able to tell it was there without looking directly in the grill, or under the radio. I have made trips from MI to VA and have routinely made extreme great timing with the aid of this fine piece of electronics. I was doing about 90 on I-75 through Ohio, and got a small warning beep, so I slowed to 80mph. The signal got stronger and I backed down to 70mph and saw the state trooper on the overpass shooting down the freeway. I had warning almost 2 miles in advance. The laser protection has worked equally well. I was gunned down in VA, where the detectors are illegal. The cop didn't know I had it, didn't get pulled over.
I find that the tones and beeps are great at getting your attention, even with the music playing full blast, but yet not annoying if the music is off. The lights are ample and have different setting for brightness, although in direct sunlight may be hard to see.
