A smart buy...

Pros Good band detection! Good volume. Digital voice tells you what band is being detected
Cons Display is dark. No tech-mode, or voltmeter. Can't shut bands off.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  If your going to get a detector that works well, but you don't want to spend a lot of money, purchase this one! It works Very good
I borrowed this detector from a friend, and I was impressed with its overall performance. This detector comes in black, and has a red display (which should be brighter). When detecting radar, it shows radar intensity by both a Geiger counter (1 through 9), and a five-section meter that increases proportionally with the numbers. There is no volume dial. Instead, a button on top of the detector controls the volume. (It does get loud, if set on high.) The detector also offers a voice feature, which tells you what band is being detected by stating, ?K-Band? or ?KA-Band? etc. There is also an auto-mute feature that will alert you to radar, and then make clicking sounds to alert you of the intensity of radar. If you happen to live in an area where SWS is used, this detector supports 65 messages.

The detector has VG-2 capabilities, but the feature must be turned on. When it detects VG-2, it shuts down, so during its downtime, the detector will NOT pick up any radar that is being used. (However, there is a new detection device starting to be used called the Spectre RDD which will pick up ANY radar detector.)

This radar detector seems to false more than my Bel 970 does, especially on X and K bands. The 970 falses more on KA band. Local cops around me (Northern New Jersey) use X-band, the easiest of all bands to pick up. This detector does a great job picking it up. I have clocked a cop .7 miles away over a hill and behind a bridge trying to catch speeders. Using KA band, I have clocked a cop a little over .6 miles away. K band is picked up well too. My 970 beats it by about .1 miles, and there is plenty of time to slow down. I have yet to pick up laser, but laser detection is basically useless, since the beam of the laser gun is Extremely Unlikely to hit the detector, and a cop will have your speed in about a quarter second anyway. So if you get a warning about laser, just pull over, you?re screwed.

You must watch out for the new Bee III KA band gun that CANNOT be detected by any detector out on the market right now, even the Valantine 1. I would personally wait until a good detector comes out with the technology to pick up this gun before purchasing a detector. However, if you?re inclined to buy, this detector is a good value, and I highly recommend it, unless you?re living in a commercial-type area. No detector will help you where there are lots of office buildings, since automatic door openers use the same bands as cops do.
