The Bottom Line:
would not recommend.
Let me preface this by saying this was the first radar detector I have ever owned. But so far, i'm unimpressed. I have three main gripes with this detector.
One, my cell phone sets off the laser detection on this thing every time it changes cells or take a call. If i'm on a long trip, that means it goes off every 15-20 minutes. Talk about crying wolf! Then, to top it off, I got a ticket from a cop using laser a week after I bought this thing. The laser detection did not go off then, even though I could see the cop right in front of me with the laser gun as I turned a corner! I think its safe to say the laser detection is a wash, but there is no way to turn off the laser detection and just use it as a regular radar detector. If you use a GSM cell phone like me, its really very annoying.
Second, This detector is not very sensitive. I have not been saved by using this thing yet. I took it on a 6 hour long distance trip, and the only time it went off (diregarding the laser thing above) was when a Cop was coming right at me in the other lane on a straight freeway. It did not give me enough warning time... I was in a pack with several other cars.. thankfully I the cop left me alone. Generally, this thing goes from zero bars all the way up to full alert. i have decided that when ever it goes off, it usually is just saying "dude, your getting a ticket!".
Third, I transfered this detector from one vehicle to another. In the process, the tip of the AC car adaptor came unscrewed somehow and fell off. I have never seen a car plug adaptor that is so cheaply made. I no longer have a functioning power cord.. I guess i'll have to buy their 30$ smart cord. I read it comes with a mute button, thats good, because i'm tired off reaching over to... Oh nevermind.
