The Bottom Line:
Get this detector espically for the KU band since its coming 2006.
I did lots of research on this model and the Rx 65. Wanting something with Ku ability since in 2006 this band will be available to law enforcement by a major radar gun manufactor.
According to Bel this unit has the same enternals and is the same detector as the Rx 65 minus the expert meter, and Ka international or usa setting the 995 comes set for international which is what is recommended on the Rx 65. The range on these two detectors is almost identical the Rx 65 may alert one second earlier if that much. The Rx 65 also comes with a smartcord and a hard travel case where the 995 comes with a standard power cord and a soft travel case thus the reason why the Rx 65 cost more.
The filtering on the Rx 65 maybe a tad better but not much however with both units you will get alot of falses if you have POP enabled because of the sensitivity required to detect the POP radar guns. The SWS band on the 995 is really kind of useless.
Overall this is a great detector for anyone who doesn't have the money to let go for a Rx 65. The 995 costs $269 compared to the Rx 65 which costs $329. The difference in detectin range between the Rx 65 and 995 could happen if you where to compare two 995's or two Rx 65's. This is a great detector for any X,K, or KA encounter. The Ku according to people in other countries where this band is used now is awesome as well. The only band with all detector that will have problems is laser and a jammer will give you a better chance of surviving a laser encounter.
