Works just fine so far

Pros dosnt false much good screen , easy to use, plenty of options, supposedly upgradable
Cons silver cover is tacky.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  if you can live with the occasional false (just like any other detector) This unit provides Wonderfull radar detection capabilities.
new update this should help sort out the people who actualy used the detector and those who just talk I emailed radartest.com and here is the responce-

My message-
I found your site to be very informative and useful. I made a mistake of buying an expensive detector before researching it ...more or less i cant find enough info on it. I see you have optimstic reviews of the bell rx65 and even mention the vector 995. But i dont see any reviews for the vector 995 and the ones i see for people's opinions they say it falses too much. My personal experience is that in auto scan mode i barely get falses. And the falses are very easy to identify. Your overall review and experience with the rx65 sounds very similar to my 995. Maybe you can point me to an article or review about this detector since i have some time to return it still. TIA

Dimitry:

We've thoroughly tested the 995 and will soon have a test report on Radartest.com of this and other near-premium, high-end models. But to answer your question, the 995 is the quietest high-end BEL we've ever tested. In performance there's little difference between it and the RX65; the latter has several more features and slightly better sensitivity.

Every detector capable of detecting POP-mode radar is susceptible to more falses when that mode is engaged. To further reduce false alarms, if you live in an area where POP mode isn't to be found, you can keep the 995 quieter still by disengaging POP mode.

My advice: keep the 995. Unless you'd prefer the RX65, which is better still.

first observations

Very first thing i noticed nobody seems to actualy review the product all they say is too much falsing. This is unnacceptable for a review. They dont state what mode the detector is when it falses "too much" etc etc. Flimsy mount (i found the mount to be acceptable).

And the cord connector is fine what do you do to make it break ? chew on it ?

First I will start out witht he fact this unit is very very similar to the rx65. All it is missing is the remote cord and the layout is slightly different. Features work identical so my hope is both use the same internals.

I didnt like the fact that this detector came with a silver cover on top. I dont know what they were thinking(bell) I quickly swapped it out for the blue cover which attracts
less attention.

The next thing on hand is the mount to the windsheild. It feels a bit weak and flimsy but unless you constantly fondle it or something it handles the job just fine. The hardes part im having right now is deciding where to put the detector to keep it from interfering with my driving.

I have read both reviews and failed to notice my 995 falsing more than twice when i go to work. Unless your completely mindless your supposed to think and not the detector think for you too. Most of the falses are K band with signal strengh of 2 that denotes that your most likely near a stop light or safeway. Another one i encountered was over a bridge which seems to use laser sensors..the bridge goes up and down so im assuming anything in the sensors dosnt allow the bridge to move. These are the only 2 falses. Another thing to consider in a city like portland and many others they use photoradar as in if you run a red light the thing will shoot you so dont ignore some of those kband "falses".
To sum it up pay very close attention to k band signal strengh and ka band .The occasional x band but that is going out of style really quick(really old standard). This detector should have fairly sensitive hardware for detecting this (based on review of the rx65 vs 2 other models on radartest.com rx65 had "supernatrual" abilities to sense KA band and other radar signals. It would do it even over a hill) .

Voice alerts are very clear I find the detector loud enough even in the quiet setting.

Brightness settings are also very effective in fact the max bright is too anoying and grabs my attention too well(like when nothing is going on !!).

Overall setting the features is easy I havnt quite figure out how to turn on pop mode I heard it falses a bit too but is very effective at catching the real thing.(your chances of running into pop are pretty slim right check info on what states use the most pop)

Out of the 3 modes I find autoscan to be very vesatile I rarley switch between city or highway it seems the detector knows what its doing.

I havnt had the pleasure of running into a PO PO yet to test overall effectivness. Most our cops sit about the highway or drive with their lights of at night trying to clock a car from behind. But i will give this unit 5 stars for being so miserably reviewed and not even given a chance.

If you actualy want to read a decent review of a detector almost identical to this go to radartest.com. There is a few reviews here on the 965 that are worth reading too since it is identical except for a few things.

on another note of testing i have read 2 seperate websites one fathoring the 8500 x50 and one favoring the x65. So testing is inconclusive. Do keep in mind the x65 has been out a bit longer than the vector ( if i can find a new comparison of the vector 995 and x65 and escort 8500 it would be nice).

In the end none of these units will save you from a cop clocking you buy timing how long it takes to get to a marker your best chance is when you think your the only car on the road to be very careful because as i learned before i got a detector in my state they can and will sometimes follow with no lights on and had the displeasure of dealing with one of their kind.(state patrol of washington).
