BenQ has developed an attractive no-frills monitor

The Bottom Line:
An inexpensive, no-frills monitor, only 9 lbs, clean styling, no support.
I am satisfied with BenQ's monitor--especially considering the price. If spending an extra $120 wouldn't have hurt my budget too much, I'd have gotten another brand, such as Sharp, Samsung, or Sony. That said, it is definitely a cut above most LCDs in its price range.
This monitor works fine, but it initially had a conflict with my primary notebook. There was a sort of static flicker. I finally determined that it was a limitation of my video card, and the problem was solved when I lowered the color setting to 16-bit color. Although that was not a problem with the monitor, I became unimpressed with BenQ's "Support."
I explained the fact that it works with two of my computers without incident but not with the nc4010. They literally replied "OK. Thank you for choosing BenQ..." Meanwhile, HP wanted me to reinstall the latest BIOS to see if that would fix the problem...
So, when faced with an issue with a specific computer, BenQ Support seems to be saying that it's not their fault or problem. I'm not sure which, but I'm not impressed.
I've had the monitor for about five months now and I am over the initial anger at the lack of documentation and support that could have saved me some time. It's a nice looking object, text is sharp, brightness and contrast are good, so I'd recommend it if you're looking for a 17" LCD in the (now 3/05) < $250 range.
