The Bottom Line:
Avoid this unit unless you want to be out of pocket
We purchased the projector at the recommendation of a professional installer. He said "that he had installed many BENQ projectors and all had worked well." The unit was installed in our Church building for use in worship services. The unit is mounted approximately 4m above the ground and 4m down from the cathedral ceiling. The projector is used every Sunday for approximately 1 - 1 1/2 hours for each of the morning and evening services.
After about 8 months the image started to flicker in the top left corner. The flickering gradually increased over a couple of months until the image was unusable. We contacted our installer who tested the unit for interference and none was detected.
We had to erect scaffolding to get the unit removed and sent off to an authorised repairer. The repairer reported that the lamp was faulty and required replacement. The lamp had been used a total of 218 hours of the expected 1,500 hours. I contacted BENQ service and was told lamps only have a 3 month warranty and there was nothing they could do. I then authorised the replacement of the lamp by the Melbourne based authorised repairer at the cost of $650.00 AU. After two weeks our installer contacted me and said " The authorised repairer has not started on your projector so I have had it couriered back, and will obtain and install the lamp myself." My installer ordered and received the lamp in two days. Overall I am not impressed with the lamp life or the after sales service from the authorised agent.
