I wanted a new set of speakers to compliment my new iMac. I found these speakers to be the perfect fit. For starters, the speakers sound great. I have never had a set of flat panel speakers before, but these reproduce sound very nicely. I was impressed with the package that comes with it. You get two pedestals it you want to leave the speakers on your desk, but what I've chosen to do to save space is to mount them on the upright part of my desk. You can take off the pedestals and insert a separate attachment that lets you apply the speaker by its side to a smooth surface. It has a hinge that lets you then angle the speaker in any direction.
If you're looking for a pair of impressive speakers, these are the ones. Everyone has a pair of those basic tiny speakers that comes with your computer, but these speakers are really nice looking. They look futuresque, and would really compliment any system. Make sure you have the room for these speakers, though. They take up quite a bit of room, especially if you have them on the pedestals. The speaker itself is about 7 by 4 inches.
The subwoofer produces a very nice, full sound. I don't think it is as powerful as some of the others available, but I don't need it any higher than the maximum setting. This brings me to another point. Many speaker systems have a volume control on one of the speakers, so you can easily set it from your desk. however, the volume control on this set is on the subwoofer itself. There are 4 settings: power, main volume, subwoofer volume, and 3d sound replication. Fortunately, my computer's keyboard has sound control keys so I don't have to adjust the main volume to often.
The 3d sound replication is an interesting feature. I'm not sure why you would ever keep it off, because the sound is much more fuller with it on. It is supposed to direct the sound in all directions, instead of focussing the sound one one point.
I purchased this product from Outpost.com fo just $30. This seemed like a really great deal, and this was the deciding factor for my purchase. I've seen the Benwin BW2000 for $50 other places online, but for $30 and free overnight shipping, you really can't beat it. I'm not sure if this was a promotion or if it the actual price, but check it out.
