NOT for classical music--but for the punk rocker or hip-hopper

The Bottom Line:
Recommended for somebody who needs a small sub, but for pop-type music... NOT recommended for the discerning listener into classical music or film scores.
BIC America is a very good company, they provide a 7 year warranty on the subwoofer's components, and a 1 year warranty on the amplifier. That in itself is VERY impressive.
This tiny little 8" sub is 11" cubed, yet is capable of 100watts of bass.
To clarify some things up, it has two speaker-level inputs, and one LFE port (mono RCA port) for Dolby Digital/DTS Receivers. It also has the 2-prong power cord built-in to the back.
One thing I really like about this sub is that it has a three-position switch, with the following settings: ON/AUTO/OFF. It works nicely too...
There are plastic spike feet that you screw into the bottom of the subwoofer, around the down-firing 8" driver.
It is adequate to say that this subwoofer compares more to a car subwoofer than to a home theatre subwoofer. The reason it does is 2-fold. First, the cone of the 8" driver is coated with a very coarse coating, there are little spots in the coating, fused onto the outside of the cone, this makes the cone much more firm and rigid, theoretically minimising distortion; however, the bass that comes out of the sub is NOT QUALITY bass, it isn't the kind of bass that you would want to hear when listening to, say "Yanni", or the score to "The Rock", this automatically rules out most Classical music.
One thing very important in why this sub is not suitable for this type of music is because the subwoofer is what the manufacturer says "EQUALIZED", what that means is that the frequences are equalized, meaning that certain frequences below the crossover settings are produced in full more than others (due to their electronic EQUALISATION), the result is BOOMY BASS, that is very well suited for HIP-HOP or PUNK ROCK music, but NOT Classical or anything like it.
I also own a JBL PB12 subwoofer, after one year of it, I am really happy, but this BIC V-80 subwoofer really isn't all I'd hoped for.
Perhaps after the initial break-in period, it will sound better, but my first impressions aren't all that good.
The problem I have the most is that I paid $99 for this BIC V-80, and if I would have spend $70-80 more, I could have gotten a much better sub.
Don't get me wrong, this subwoofer is very powerfull for it's size, but it just doesn't suit me.
For computer games, movies, ROCK, PUNK, POP, OR HIP-HOP music, this subwoofer is GREAT!
However, if you need a small subwoofer that can produce the low frequencies in tight, clean, and undistorted bass for CLASSICAL, or anything requiring clear, and sonically-accurate bass, look for something else.
