Casablanca CD50

Pros Great display, great sound
Cons remote radio reception
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  If you are looking for something out of the ordinary - the Blau will deliver good sound in a very cool looking head unit.
I purchased my first 'high end' receiver - CD50 recently. Put into a Subaru Legacy. First problem was that the blaupunkt didn't come with tapped threads. I had to buy a 5mm tap and a star wrench to tap the body threads, and remove the trim panel. After getting it in, all worked fine.

The CD sounds quality is awesome. Great bass, fast track finding and nice features (like track scan, mix play etc). I drive on bad dirt roads in northern VT and the unit has never skipped once. I really like the spartan display and buttons - and find them easy to use.

The radio reception was tough. on strong stations, the digiciever words really well. Great sound. Unfortunately on weaker stations the receiver also pulls in a lot of static. Worse in some ways that my factory receiver. The sharx and hiCut feature both work as advertised, but again only if you have a strong signal to begin with.

The overall appearance I really like. Someone said the blau's are built for the autobahn, while japanese units are built for traffic jams. maybe true. I find the buttons easy to use and logical. I don't have a problem reading the display even during the day - although because of the mounting configuration, light doesn't easily shine directly on the face.

after much web searching it doesn't sound like there is any awesome radio receiver for cars, but next time arond i'll do more testing.

On the whole i like it - unlike most of what is out there, this unit looks distinctive, stands out from the pack and has some cool useful (to me) features.

Top likes:
-Appearance. Distinctive and cool.
-Easy to remove and reinstall the face plate. Much better than the Pioneer Units I've seen.
-Large easy to use well spaced buttons (even with gloves on)
-Nice 5 channel equalizer.

Top dislikes:
-No way to set clock to be default display while unit is on (you have to press a button to see the time while you are listening - an annoying oddity).
-Radio reception (mentioned above)
