Another SOLID knockout from BOSE!

Pros Great Bose sound and quality craftmanship! Good highs, clean mids, true lows.
Cons Nothing thats worth mentioning. Gold plated screw style connectors would have been good.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  BOSE = ACCURATE, CLEAN, and BOLD sound and the 201s continue that tradition. A safe bet and will impress your ears for a medium sized bookshelf speaker!
The Bose 201 Series V bookshelf speakers are yet another high quality product from Bose! If you are looking for a set of stunning bookshelf stereo speakers then these are your best bet, not to mention the least risky. I say risky because everyone always worries about what the speakers will sound like once they get home. Now, I must warn you that I am already a Bose fan but with no bias I am very impressed with the new Series V 201s.

To give you a background on myself I am an audio engineer and my use of the 201s is for a consumer stereo reference. In the audio engineering field we use much more accurate and expensive studio monitors but we also have multiple speakers in studio to let our ears hear what it will sound like on consumer equipment. I am experiencing the 201s in a stereo environment and if some of you are looking to use these as surround speakers I am uncertain of how they would act. That would depend on what your other speakers are and how they blend with the 201s. The 201s easily suit my needs and sound stunning. However, these are not the speakers to crank up for your weekend party scene. They are designed for more of a medium-loud (83dB) and lower. The highs are not super-sharp but are crisp and clean. The lows are present and bold but do not have the huge 'boom' which a lot of people are looking for. Even the mids are sweet sounding and don't have a muddy quality even at higher amplitudes. Remember to have a good quality sound you need a good quality amp and clean cables (which means a good gauge, and the shorter the run the better).

In short, I really was impressed by the 201s. They are a very safe investment for the $200 dollar range. They really sound great and from all angles look solidly built. They sounded great playing all kinds of music and will not disappoint your ears!
