Bose 901 Series VI Main / Stereo Speaker

I've grown up with BOSE. My father is an all American man. He likes Cadillacs, John Wayne, and BOSE speakers. That's just how it is. Since I was a child my dad had these BOSE 901 series IV speakers. They shook the walls. He swore by them. He used to tell me all the time that they were the Top of the line. The Cadillac of Speakers, and I ( being a child with no earthly idea about that sort of thing )believed him.

In 1997 the foam around the driver had eroded and my father gave Bose a call. They sent him a brand spanking new pair of series VI 901s for $200 complete with equalizer. Now that is a phenomenal deal. I was impressed with the service; but had long since lost my awe in the sound ( I thought because of the foam in question ) of my fathers wonderful speakers. When they came he eagerly tore away the plastic and hooked them up with high end wire. NOT MUCH DIFFERENCE.

There are 9 drivers on the back of the 901s and 2 in the front. Professor Bose founded their reflecting technology on the same principles as a concert hall. When you go to see a concert usually about 11% of the actual sound from the speakers hits YOUR ears, the other 89% is reflected off of the walls. Theres only one problem. I DON'T LIVE IN A CONCERT HALL.
The loud is there; but not clarity in the highs or lows. Only midrange. Its very frustrating.

The Price is atrocious. Its like putting a Cadillac body on a Hyundai and selling it for $50,000. I recently replaced his speakers with a pair of my own. The ones I bought were $600 retail and blow the bose out of the water in every single spectrum. People tend to just take for granted that paying a lot for a pair of speakers makes them good. WRONG. There is not one single genre of music or movies run through the same receiver with the same placement that does not sound twice as good on my new speakers.

Don't get me wrong. Bose is a top flight company. They give great service and are well known throughout the world. They are marketed extremely well; but their product is slightly above average and retails for more than you could get a full surround set of comparable quality for. Thank you for listening.
