Inferior product

Pros You can say you own Bose
Cons Expensive, old technology, poor sound quality, analog inputs only, dated styling
Recommended it? No
Bose still sells this rather archaic speaker system and says its a "flagship". The flagship apparently is a galleon, because speaker technology has changed by leaps and bounds since the 901 was debuted.
The series VI changes seem to be more tweaks than anything else. The equalizer curve has changed, the speakers reside in a plastic preformed case with integrated bass ports, and the drivers themselves were modified to make them more efficient.

What's the same is everything else, the stands, the cheap MDF with thin veneer, the lack of tweeters, and of course the exorbitant price.

Sound quality is dismal, giving mostly midrange unless you crank your amplifier's bass and treble to heights that would blow your regular speakers. The 4.5" drivers are simply inadequate for reproducing low bass below 100Hz, and anything above 8000Hz.

Stereo imaging is rather muddy because the sound is designed to bounce off walls. Placement can be difficult.

Speakers are also unshielded. Speaker Stands are not very wide at the bottom nor counterweighted so its very easy to tip the speaker over and damage it severely, especially on thick carpeting. Connectors are unusual thumbscrews, so you can't use industry standard banana jack plugs.
