Recommended it?
Yes
I have long been unhappy with my surround sound coming from my system that consists of Bose 601 main, Infinity center, Kenwood front effect, Pioneer rear speakers. I liked my old Bose 601's, but the rest were just mis-matched...all producing their own unbalanced sound. I was informed that it was crucial to have same brand of speakers for the entire system in order to have good balanced sound. It made a perfect sense.
I have finally decided to replace the entire speaker system, and visited a local audio shop to pick out a good set of speakers. B&W speakers were the ones I have been dreaming of having for so long, so I listened to several of them only to discover my budget won't allow me to buy the ones that sounded so good. The lower end speakers weren't going to make me happy, so I decided to go with my second option that is to keep my Bose 601, and replace the rest with Bose speakers. I picked the smallest system, the "Acoustimass 6" that came with 5 small speakers with a base module. I listened to these at the store before buying, and truthfully, didn't think they were good standalone system. I bought them anyway since it was going to be the least cost option to make my system better.
Sound? Night and day from my previous set up! Sound is as if they are coming from one speaker, with the whole living room filled with natural delicious sound! Music sounds great, but the true value of these additional "matching speakers" is when watching movies with Dolby Surround sounds. I keep checking to see if sound is really coming from these surround speakers as their speaker tone perfectly match my old 601's and it is just room full of perfectly blended sound.
I still believe these aren't truly good enough to be used as a set of main music speakers, but they are near perfect as surround speakers.
The speakers did not come with mounting brackets which was a surprise considering how much the speakers costed. The cheapest brackets were $20 each, and I had to get 4 of these! Brackets are required if you want neat appearance. The system did come with all the wiring needed, although my rear speaker wires weren't long enough to be routed through the attic. There are two color choices; black or white. They are attractively designed to be used in any rooms.
