"Friends Don't Let Friends Buy Bose" -Anonymous

Pros Very Small Speakers
Cons Everything Else You Can Think Of
Recommended it? No

Let me say right off the bat: these speakers are terrible. They were the first "real" speakers that I ever purchased. I bought them because I completely bought into the hype and the Bose stereo in my parent's car sounded pretty good (on reflection, anything probably would have sounded better than... Don't buy this system, read this to see why.

Pros Small in size.
Cons Small in quality, expandability and too big on price.
Recommended it? No

I just recently reviewed the Bose Lifestyle 12 system. My review was not favorable, some of the reasons were the lack of expandability, the poor sound and the fact that it was way overpriced. The lifestyle system was however a "home theater" system as well as stereo. It also came with an amplifier... Read full review »

Not For Serious Music

Pros Satellites are small
Cons Pricey, hollow sound
Recommended it? No

I ended up returning my Bose Acoustimass 5 series III system after just one day. It simply did not meet up to my expectations. It did not sound nearly as good as the ESM-3 bookshelf speakers I was replacing. One of my ESM-3's developed a rattle, but I was able to do a comparison of the remaining... Read full review »

Pros small, crisp, clear
Cons not enough bass
Recommended it? Yes

It may not meet your needs but it is perfect for me. I listen to soul, rap, hip-hop, and r&b. I own a Bose Acoustimass 5 series II speaker system, and it has been the greatest electronic investment of my life! This is the one with the Acoustimass module and the two cube arrays. I bought the system... Read full review »

Not bad....

Pros Open, airy sound, low price.
Cons Ineffficient, no mid bass, lack some high end detail.
Recommended it? No

As a real Klipsch-biggot (a less than lover of Bose) I was pleasently surprised by the Acoustimass 5 III's. They are open, airy and have an appealing sound quality, which is kind of wierd coming from a person who thinks Bose stands for Better Off with Something Else.

I went to the Bose... Read full review »

Good Clear Sound - Not Enough Bass

bysergmore Oct 6, 2006

Pros Small package; Easy to set up; Crisp clear sound from the little speakers.
Cons Muffled bass sound; Steep price.
Recommended it? No

I bought this system because of the Bose reputation. However, I was disappointed with this system because I was used to my old Bozak speakers, which had 4 tweeters, 2 (12") woofers and one midrange in each speaker.
I guess my expectations from a Bose system was too high (I also paid a lot for... Read full review »

BOSE puts a lot in a little package.

Pros Easy to install, sound really good. Very clear.
Cons Bass unit unshielded. Best sound achieved with distance between speakers.
Recommended it? Yes

After reading the reviews posted by others whom have purchased these speakers, I felt it necessary to add my voice to the mix to perhaps put a little different spin on the Acoustimass 5. First, let me say this, for those who want gigantic sound over a dynamic range, who listen mostly to rock and... Read full review »

Clear sound and excellent clarity.

Pros Small in size; Large in sound. Crisp mid and highs. Long-lasting quality.
Cons The "mid-woofer" performs well, but needs a true subwoofer. Not upgradable.
Recommended it? Yes

I've owned my AM5's for over 10 years and they still kick. From low to ear-bleeding volume they still sound great; and, are easily hidden. Hide the mid-woofer, mount the drivers on the wall, and enjoy an uncluttered house with awesome sound.

Be careful with the hinged cubes. Drop them and... Read full review »

Pros Size, clarity
Cons Versatlility
Recommended it? Yes

Many audiophiles consider Bose Speakers the top of the line speakers. This was true for a very long time but now the market has challenged the Bose line.

Bose speakers are great for those only interested in listening to music. The acoustimass series speakers offer a variety of alluring... Read full review »

Good value for entry level sound

bytfung Jan 28, 2000

Pros Good value and middle of the range for Acoustimass
Cons Will get the higher priced Acoustimass models for better sound
Recommended it? No

Since he started designing speakers in the 1960s, Dr. Amar Bose has become famous, even notorious, for doing things his own way. He doesn't think having a separate woofer and tweeter are real important, but he does have a passion for flinging sound around the room -- and giving the user plenty of... Read full review »
