I thought it was GREAT!!
Pros
Small, easy to hide equipment sounds terrific
Cons
Expensive.
Recommended it?
Yes
First, let me say that I didn't buy the Bose system, my cousin did. I say that because since I didn't actually spend money, I never thought about the cost factor, though I certainly know how much it cost my cousin.
He bought the Lifestyle 12, but hadn't moved into his new house yet so asked if I would keep it until he did. I said "Hmmmm, let me think about that.. OK!!!"
We hooked it up that night, which was truly easy. The simplicity of connecting it to the television and vcr really surprised me, we had it all done within 30 minutes, including speaker placement and hiding the wires.
Then we turned it on. Wow. The sound was very impressive considering the size of the equipment. (In fact, I had several people visit who had a hard time finding any stereo at all even though it was thumping to prove it was truly there!) When we put in some good loud music, namely Metallica, it actually made all the windows vibrate and you could feel the thumping in the walls! It was truly loud. Usually when you get that loud there is distortion and vibration from the speakers, not so with Bose Lifestyle 12. The sound stayed as pristine and sharp as it did playing at normal background levels.
I have to tell this little story: When I had the Bose Lifestyle 12 I lived in very, very rural area. The closest house was at least 150 yards away over a hill. One day my cousin and I were splitting wood outside with the Bose turned up a little over halfway. When we were all finished we went inside and I saw I had a message on my answering machine. can you believe it was the far away neighbor complaining that our music was too loud? Now. ladies and gentlemen, THAT is LOUD!
Another great feature is the remote that comes with the system. You don't have to be in the same room, or even in the house, to have it work. I think it works on some infrared band or something that I don't understand, anyway whatever it does, it works well. I have seen it work at around 30-40 yards away, outside the home. Nice.
The only thing that I didn't like about the Bose was there was no multiple disc ability. It was a one disc deal, so you had to manually change it if you had parties or whatever. Oh, I guess there is one other thing I disliked about it. I had to give it back to the guy who bought it when he moved into his home. It broke my heart.
So why didn't I buy one of my own? My wife wouldn't let me spend $2000 on a stereo, or else I would have one today without a doubt.
