Amaze your friends

Pros Powerful, nearly invisible
Cons Need to add a pre-amp to attach a turntable
Recommended it? Yes
I think the neatest aspect of the Bose Lifestyles 5 system is its appearance is so discreet you can almost make the entire system vanish. Everything except the two small satellite speakers that mount on the wall is hidden, making your friends wonder just where is all that big sound coming from.

I got heavily into high end audio back in the late 70's. My system consisted of all separates, amp, pre-amp, tuner, deck ,turntable, speakers etc. I kept upgrading components until I had invested somewhere in the vicinity of over $5,000 in my system.

My loudspeakers alone cost about $1,400 and each was about the size of a cigarette machine. I thought that I had finally achieved audio
nirvana. Then along one by one came my children. They as toddlers found my rack mounted supersystem very accessible and lots of fun. I on the other hand was not very amused.

My giant oversized speakers apparently looked like mountains to my toddlers as they frequently tried to scale them. And all those knobs on my electronics were a constant attraction that my toddlers thought must be in need of some adjustment.

I could take it no more, sticky fingerprints all over my prized system. I packed it up and put it in the attic figuring in ten years or so my three children would be adult enough to leave it along.

That next fathers day my wife surprised me with a Bose Lifestyles 5 system. She'd seen me eyeing it from time to time in the local mall and decided to buy it for me.

I couldn't have been happier with this system it absolutely kicks @#$%. And the kids can't touch it. That was seven or eight years ago and my children are old enough to know better now but I still haven't pulled my old supersystem out of the attic.

When you consider that I paid 5k for my old system and this one at only $1500 I think sounds better. I think that says a lot both for Bose and ever evolving technology.

This 200 watt system fills my living room with crisp accurate sound. I will admit that I was put off at first by what I consider the overly "bright" sound of CD's. I still think a good LP played on an excellent turntable with a top grade cartridge and associated electrics sounds "warmer" But most people will gladly opt for the convenience of this CD system.
