Bose Lifestyle 5 Not Recommended for $1300
Pros
small and easy to hide
Cons
over priced for the sound
Recommended it?
No
I've tried the Bose and frankly for $1300 you'd do much better following the Buying Guide for Systems under $2000 (www.audiosystems.com/RecommendedSystems.htm) I found on this site.
For $800 you can do a NAD Music System which sounds better than Bose and is cheaper than the recommended system above.
The recommended NAD C340 ($399), PSB Alpha A/V Speakers ($249/pr) and NAD 520 CD Player ($299) is a better system than the NAD Music System (NAD L40 CD Receiver + PSB Minis) but you probably also want the NAD AM/FM Tuner for a couple hundred more. Still under the $1300 Bose price.
Either sounds much better than the Bose and the C340 is a nice center piece to grow in terms of stereo.
Note: Direct comparison done between a C340 and KEF Coda III spkrs against a friend's Lifestyle.
Rated as a "2" in relation to price. The Lifestyle doesn't sound horrible or anything but in the under $1500 category they are below average.
