I'm loyal to Bose, but have to tell you this.
Pros
Design, Sophisticated Alarm
Cons
Price, Cheap remote, not "big" sound
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
It's a great "wow" factor unit, but don't spend $500 for this. You won't get what the ads promise.
I received a Bose Wave Radio/CD as a gift and was so excited, because I own a Bose Lifestyle 5 system and know the great quality of Bose first hand. This Wave Radio was going to be perfect the perfect addition to our bedroom. Well, it IS a good addition to our bedroom, but I'm sure glad I didn't pay the $500 for this unit, because it just doesn't stack up well for that price. Yes, it's a good system compared to others of its size, but just a fair system when compared to what else you can get with $500.
Let's start with the good:
-- Clear sound that lets you listen at very low volumes, or very high volumes. No distortion.
-- The bass is tremendous! I live in a 3,500 square foot house and at volume level at just 1/3 the max, I can hear the thump, thump, thump on the third floor even though the Wave radio is on the first floor.
-- Two alarms operate independently, allowing for the unit to be used by two people on different schedules. Throw out the alarm clocks on each bedside table, and put this on your dresser. Use the remote to turn it off, then leave it handy for your significant other to do the same when he/she wakes up.
-- The alarm gradually increases to a pre-determined maximum sound. So, if you're slumbering lightly, the initial alarm (or music) will wake you and you can turn it off without disturbing your bed mate. Or, if you're in a deep sleep, the alarm will eventually reach the maximum setting you've selected and bring your out of REMs.
-- Simply, it's a cool design. It's very modern looking and will fit into any modern setting. Though, we have more mission-style furniture, it still works in that decor. It adds a flash of technology to an otherwise earthy room.
Now, the bad:
-- You can't adjust the bass or treble levels. This seems like such a basic function, I couldn't believe my eyes when I realized it wasn't available on this high tech, high-priced unit. As I mentioned above, the bass is impressive, but sometimes I want to tone it down a bit. Impossible.
-- The remote is puny and has buttons that hardly depress. The buttons are covered by a sheet of plastic and it's hard to tell when you've actually pressed it. The remote would be easily lost in the bedsheets if you were following my advice above in the "good" section.
-- Price is way too high.
-- Not intuitive functionality. It has A LOT of options, but it's hard to know how to get to them without a manual in hand.
So, although I'm pleased with it as an alarm clock for my wife and me, I don't think it was worth the hype and $500 dollars my gift-giver spent.
