WHAT'S THE 411 ON THIS PRODUCT?
I got my first look at the Brookstone 497362 Main / Wireless Stereo Speaker at the Brookstone Store in the Providence Place Mall. I was taken by its stunning futuristic look and style. But I was mainly intrigued and flabbergasted by the amazing sound that came from this unit!! It doesn't even look like a stereo speaker system, but rather some sort of weird looking miniature toy spaceship or a robot-like thing, R2-D2!
So I asked the salesman for a demonstration, and he showed me how it is hooked up to an audio source - in this case, a stereo system and how it sounds as well as how it can be used up to 150 feet away from its audio source. I was becoming more and more intrigued and amazed by this product. Well, just yesterday, I just couldn't put it off any longer, so I went to one of the Brookstone stores at Boston's Logan Airport (those stores are the ones closest to me) and purchased the unit!
WHAT THEN?
I just finished setting it up and hooking it up to the TV that's in the bedroom, and I just couldn't believe how the sound has improved so drastically! It sounds almost as though it's a powered subwoofer! Well, it DOES run on its own power like the subwoofer in the living room does. I thought at first that it was going to be hard to set up, but it was relatively easy to do.
After getting the unit hooked up and running, I noticed that the sound from this is much better than the sound from the TV's own speaker! As though the TV sound itself is on steroids!
WHAT ELSE?
The small transmitter sends a powerful signal the the speaker, and its geometrical / onmi design enhances the sound to stereo proportions. After making a few minor adjustments to the volume and sound quality, all that's left to do is to just sit back and let the unit put you in another world all your own, as the sound is so good that it will almost makes you think that you bought another TV with pumped up stereo sound!
SETTING IT UP / HOOK UP:
For the unit to work, all that you need, really and drastically, is an audio source, such as from your stereo, radio, TV or an MP-3 player. It comes with the necessary hook-up cables to help you get it connected. For your stereo, you'll need to use a set of left and right auxillary jacks behind your stereo receiver or amplifier on the rear panel. Or the audio jacks on the front panel if your amp or receiver has them.
The transmitter and the speaker itself, both have their own separate power cord / adapters for household power. The speaker is wireless except for those times when you want to hook up an MP-3 player directly to the speaker's terminals on the bottom of the unit.
I took the Y-shaped cord and had to use the main 2- channel cord, the one that you'd normally use to connect to the stereo, plugged it into the jacks at the back of the transmitter, the jacks at the other end into the y-cord and the single end from that cord into the TV's headphone jack and presto, I now get true and enhanced stereo sound from the TV!!
HOW DOES IT WORK?
After hooking up the unit to your chosen audio source and choosing which channel you'd like both the speaker and transmitter to (I'm using channel 1) the channel of your choice, you simply turn on the transmitter and the speaker.
In quiet surroundings, when you turn on the speaker's main
power switch, you will hear two small little clicks. One is for the protection circuitrty, while the other is for the sound to kick in.
Adjust the volume either from the speaker's own control or the audio source's control. If you want more bass, just press the Bass button. And if you want to add a special touch of a blue glow to the unit at night, simply press the Light button and the cone area will light up from two small blue lights above in a stunning blue that's quite similar to the blue lights that light up New York's new 7 World Trade Center Tower's bottom floors!!
This is very enhancing on the outdoor deck! When you want to use the unit outdoors and away from a power source, just install 8 size D batteries in the compartment under the unit where the two screws are! The powerful transmitter sends a signal even through walls, ceilings and floors within 150 feet!! So that you can take and enjoy your music or sound from the TV all around the house and outside within the area surrounding the house!
When used on the floor of the outdoor deck or in the house, the powerful bass is enhanced even more!

MY OWN EXPERIENCE SO FAR:
So far, I LOVE this little futuristic looking space-age- designed unit!! Kind of reminds me of the Star Wars robot R-2D2. It just made my bedroom TV sound a whole lot better than with just the TV's own speaker.
It sounds really great and adds a touch of space-age design / technology to wherever you choose to listen to your music or TV sound! Put simply, it just turned my bedroom TV's boring sound into greatly enhanced stereo sound! It does to that TV what the surround sound system did to my stereo and TV in the living room! Works great!
I love that the speaker unit is ultra lightweight so that it can be carried from room to room or all around the outside area within the house, yet it pumps out powerful bass and realistic stereo sound!
