Feisty, unassuming stereo

Pros I love it! You don't need to read an encyclopedia to operate.
Cons Just a suggestion, illuminated remote control would be nice.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Superior performance in an inexpensive, fully functioning stereo system.
I found this super compact stereo at Brookstone and felt this had a place in my home. I did not want a stereo that would take up half the room, I don't have the time, knowledge and patience for one of those units anyway.

I have always disliked the appearance of speakers being a furniture piece in a room. But I do enjoy fine sound quality.

I bought this Brookstone Slim Profile CD system, because on testing the unit in the store, I was startled with the powerful, clear crisp sound of this sleek system. It sits discretely on my wall unit, but produces a powerful sound.

THE UNIT

This slim line audio unit measures 18 1/2"L x 10"H x 6"D. It has a built in cradle at the base for keeping the remote control.

This is an AM/FM CD player with an equalizer simply controlled by one button for your choice of music, be it classical, rock, pop or flat. I don't know what flat is, but I have used the other three and the sound is amazing for a system this size. If I close my eyes, I feel as if the musicians are in the same room as I am.

The smoked CD screen slides up, to insert your selection.
This CD player plays only one CD at a time but programs 20 tracks. (My last unit had a carousel that worked for about a year and then jammed. I spent over $500.00 and never got through the dense book of instructions.)

The AM/FM digital tuner can be programmed for 40 preset stations. This unit came with an antenna for clear reception.

The remote control is fully functional and is black with red markers, to match the black unit with red LCD screen. The remote can open and close the door, power, stop, play, pause, rewind, equalizer, AM/FM CD, repeat, repeat all, random, mute and sleep functions. As stated earlier, this unit cradles the remote when used as a shelf unit and operates on a button battery. Since my purchase in December 2005, I am still using the same battery.

This stereo is wall mountable. It has output jacks for headphones.

USAGE

I use this shelf system in my living room on my wall unit. The sound is noticed before you see the stereo. Its' dark appearance makes it inconspicuous and is not really visible, unless it is turned on and the red LCD display stands out. The sound is crystal clear even when playing home made CD's.

I liked having my carousel CD player, but because of the expense and failure to perform, I decided to tone down to a more simplistic unit. I really don't seem to mind changing the CD's anyway, it gives me a chance to peruse my collection and change my mind.

BOTTOM LINE

I purchased my stereo in December of 2005 for about $100.00 and it hasn't failed me yet. I am very happy with this purchase and will recommend it very highly.

My only negative criticism would be that perhaps the remote control could be illuminated red, just as the LCD display is.

The salespeople told me at the time of purchase, that the stereo is guaranteed, and if there is any problem, at any time, just return the unit and it will be taken care of. The purchase is recorded and Brookstone itself makes the unit. I have not had to test this statement, but if I do, you'll be the first to know what happens.

Thank you for reading my review.
