The Bottom Line:
To me, this is the very best coffee maker sold. It holds up great, and, I have fresh, hot coffee in less than 3 minutes.
I first encountered the Bunn coffee maker for home use at my fathers house. I was surprised at how fast the coffee was ready, and started asking questions. I was already familiar with the Bunn name as I have worked in restaurants where the large Bunn machines are used. I was a die-hard Mr. Coffee user until I saw how fast my father had fresh, hot coffee.
The coffee is brewed in 3 minutes or less. There is a reservoir that holds 48 ounces of water, and keeps it hot until you are ready to brew your next pot. When you first bring the coffee maker home, you pour 48 ounces of water in twice (there is a container provided for this). Every time after that, you simply put your coffee grounds in the basket, make sure that your pot is on the burner, pour in the water, and VIOLA! less than 3 minutes later, great coffee!
It is very important to remember to have your coffee decanter empty before you pour in the water. The hot coffee comes out immediately, as soon as the water is poured into the machine. There is no pause'n'serve, so, don't make the mistake I have made a few times and overflow the pot! Coffee all over the counter is not a fun experience first thing in the morning. You can turn the heater on and off, but, it is not an automatic shut-off.
The coffee maker also comes with a de-liming coil, which is very easy to use. I have the black model and it is very easy to clean up. There are specific coffee filters sold just for these Bunn coffee makers but I have used regular filters with no problems.
I have had my Bunn for over 2 years now, and this is a record for me and my java-loving family. There are, however, a few drawbacks to this particular coffee-maker. There is no pause'n'serve, there is no clock to pre-set, and there is no automatic shut-off. Those three things are what I used to look for in a coffee maker. After using the Bunn at my fathers house, however, my mind changed fast... in about 3 minutes! Also, you can't make just a few cups of coffee, it is 8 cups every time. That is fine with me, I have coffee running through my veins. My Bunn was a bit pricey ($99) but it has been well worth every cent of it. I have recently seen the Bunn being sold at Sears and WalMart.
