Cambridge Soundworks Model 88CD Table Radio and CD Player: A Great Little Unit
I was visiting a friend in Santa Barbara last weekend, and he had recently purchased this radio/CD player, so I thought I'd give it a listen and maybe a review.
The Cambridge Soundworks Model 88CD looks like a modern version of your parents' alarm clock/radio. It's a little more than a...

Underated product of a genius
This CD player/radio system provides the best sounding technology in a compact unit of this size. The late Henry Kloss, the famous audio designer and engineer, again lived up to his genius with the 88CD being one of his last and best creations before moving on to Tivoli Audio.
The 88CD...

the cambridge soundworks 88 cd is no longer in production -it was made from around 2000 to 2003, then replaced by the 730 and 740. used models appear from time to time on auction sites or in classifieds. you should be able to find one for under $200.
contrary to most of the reviews here,...

Very good sound, but....
The sound reproduced from the CSW 88cd is without a doubt pleasing to the ears. But, I really believe it depends on your taste of music. If you mainly listen to rock, rap or country, you'd probably want to buy a different unit.
The CSW 88cd was meant for jazz, blues or any genre of music...

Good sound & lousy FM reception
It's been two weeks since my 88CD arrived. And it's been two weeks of misery trying to get it to lock onto and hold onto any of the local FM radio stations. It's not that I live far, far away from some little burg with underpowered radio stations. I live less than 20 miles from downtown Detroit,... Read full review »
Sounds great, if it works
******* Update 2
CD player on the replacement died too, just after a couple months. What a pity that they make such a good sounding product and use such a cheap CD player to ruin it.
End of update 2 *******

Took them 4 weeks and several phone...

Nice Sound -- Not Worth the Price and Hassle
In Dec. 2004, I was looking for a Radio/CD player with good sound that was relatively easy to operate for my parents who are in their 80s. They were raised in homes without electricity, so although they have embraced technology in many ways -- they even have a PC -- these new electronic media... Read full review »
Worthless due to bum cd mechanism
I got the 88cd for the kitchen/secondary system. The sound was comparable to the more expensive bose system, although both are a bit too bassy for my taste. While the 88cd has a bass-level knob on the rear of the unit, it doesn't cut the level enough to make a real difference. Moving the unit out... Read full review »
Great Sound, Maybe Lousy CD Mechanism
I bought the 88CD to use in my 'office.' It serves as computer speakers, radio, TV and Satellite radio sound.
The sound from this little unit is terrific! If my receiver goes out I'll have no problem moving the CD88 to the living room for a while.
I've read the other reviews and...

Ruined by its lousy CD player
I just got my 88CD shipped back to cambridge soundwork for a repair (bought in June from buy.com this year). It sounds funny for a CD failure happening just 3 months after a brand new purchase, it is reality though.
I only occasionally plays some classic CD's with it, not much radio. At...
