Worthless due to bum cd mechanism
Pros
Good, impressive sound when it works. Nice size. Nothing comparable out there for the price.
Cons
What good is it if the main mechanism won't work? Too bassy, can't adjust sufficiently.
Recommended it?
No
I got the 88cd for the kitchen/secondary system. The sound was comparable to the more expensive bose system, although both are a bit too bassy for my taste. While the 88cd has a bass-level knob on the rear of the unit, it doesn't cut the level enough to make a real difference. Moving the unit out of the corner of the counter helped a little.
AM radio is unlistenable due to the bassiness. FM, passable.
After about a year, the cd player quit working. Sent it back to cambridge (at my expense). When I got it back, it didn't work--then started again, then worked on and off for about 18 months before dying. The amp/speakers still work--so I currently use a different cd player in another room, and ran wiring through the attic to still be able to listen to music in the kitchen--a lot cheaper than a new unit, but a pain as well.
Sadly, I also bought an 88cd for my parents shortly after my original purchase. Theirs is dead, too. It'll be a long time before I shell out $300 for anything this company makes again.
