Cambridge SoundWorks 820HD - Great Radio

byoheck Jun 1, 2008
Pros Well built, solid and has good sound. Makes listening to radio a pleasure.
Cons Still a bit pricey though still reasonable when compared to wave radio.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  I recommend purchase. Step into the future of HD with a well built radio that has very good sound.
I've had my SoundWorks 820 HD for two weeks and I'm pleased with the purchase. HD radio is new technology so there can be glitches from time to time and I had to call Cambridge once for instruction on how to reset the unit. It was very simple. I only needed to push the jog button while inserting the power cable. The sound is very good. I did attach an outdoor FM antenna because I live in the country and wanted to receive as many stations as possible. Reception has been terrific. This is a nice solid unit and has a professional appearance. I read all available reviews that I could find on the internet prior to purchase and I haven't personally experienced anything especially negative about the radio though it is still a bit pricey because it is new technology. Some people wrote that the radio is complicated but I found it rather simple to operate once you read the short manual. Bottom line: I like it and I am one satisfied customer. I'm not sure I would confuse HD with CD quality but it is far superior to standard FM. The remote control is a nice feature and easy for me to operate even in the dark at night once I became acclimated with the position of key buttons. I find an adequate number of available HD stations with a variety of format and it appears more and more stations are going HD at a steady rate. For me, listening to this radio is a pleasant step back in time to when I listened more to radio and less time watching television. If you're willing to spend the money and you're thinking of going to HD radio, I would encourage you to give serious consideration to the Cambridge SoundWorks 820 HD.
