Perfect for preserving photo collections. And for those that have a bunch of negatives? This is the scanner for you!
After simple step-by-step set-up of this scanner, it was very simple to "jump right in" to scanning my photos, 35mm slides, and negatives up to 120 size. Yes, I did in fact scan all that I just mentioned and they turned out excellent!
Scanner comes with three mounts: one for regular print film negatives, one for 35mm slides, and one for 120 size negatives. The mounts are very simple to use and there is no guess work on how to center the negative or slide over the recording area of the scanner. It's very straight forward.
The scanner also came with Adobe Elements 5.0 and another version for those that use a MAC. I still use Adobe Photoshop 7 and have yet to install the Elements version, so I can't really give any pros or cons about Elements.
I looked at various other scanners but did not want to spend an outrageous amount of money purchasing one of the higher end scanners. I paid 190.00 for the 8800F and so far, it has been money well spent.
This scanner does not use the old style Fluorescent tube light. Instead, it has a bank of LED lights. Advantages with the LEDs are that there is NO WARM UP TIME, which is a plus, and, the LEDs don't put out the heat like the tube lights.
The Clarity is better than the Canon 8800 model scanner, perhaps due to the LED lights? All of the buttons are right up front on the scanner. There is no guess work.
I recommend this to anyone seeking a low cost way to preserve your photos. It's fast set-up and easy to use. There are people out there that complain about scanning speeds for just about any scanner out there. The truth is, it's QUALITY NOT QUANTITY. You won't be disappointed with the results.
