Review as of 7 October 2009:
I can't remember how many different printers I've owned over the years and until now I would have never considered a multifunction option. It's always been a compatibility issue with the Mac, so why bother. Well, the MX860 is the very first multifunction printer that actually includes all the functions and they work very well. Yes, even with Snow Leopard! Likewise, it actually works better when used with it's own built-in wireless capability vs. the USB interconnect to my Airport Extreme Base Station! These two aspects alone are worth the purchase in my view, but it doesn't stop there. The photo print quality when using the Canon photo papers is phenomenal. I never imagined that it would be all that great on a multifunction device that cost me under 200-bucks!
Ok, enough of the flag waving so let me start to nitpick. The machine drinks ink like a race horse so be sure to have a full extra set of cartridges on hand. Also, you really can't appreciate the print results with plain paper so I strongly recommend a visit to the Canon web site for ordering their line of papers since Staples and elsewhere don't carry them. The functions do require a little study to understand and the on-line manual doesn't really explain them in an intuitive way. However, a "quick" call to customer support will work wonders as they are very knowledgeable. I say this because the set-up for the wirelessly option really stumped me. The so-called auto update of printer drivers in Snow Leopard isn't quite accurate. In the case of the MX860, Snow Leopard only provides the correct drivers for a USB connection but NOT for the wireless option. That one must be manually downloaded. Still, it was worth the call since they shared a lot more information that made my satisfaction go from a 3 to a 9.
The lower print tray is a bit flimsy when inserting it and it can jam because of this, so go gently. This seems to be the "kellins heel" for virtually all multifunction printers. The start-up for all functions is slow, again like most others. The footprint falls in the same list but remember this printer has a built-in duplexer that actually works! All in all, I highly recommend this device and the front mounted inputs are another nice touch although I haven't used them yet.
One more thing... Unlike Canon's more expensive printers, this one appears to be the only one with wireless capability that works very well.

Dan
