The Bottom Line:
CANON - why would you torture yourself with anything less?
If you can hurtle these out-of-the-box hurtles, then you are going be VERY happy with what a tiny bit of money has bought.
1. UNINSTALL ALL CANON products (OK, maybe not the large format ones - if any). Consequences: hours & days of uninstalls await you on a sluggish machine - remember the first PCs' speed? The instructions don't tell you this .... and anti-spy/virus software makes this all the more torture.
2. TECH SUPPORT at this level is not the magic the large format plotters enjoy, yet they DO answer (unlike HP) and apply the usual suspects to the laundry list YOU must trail/error - UGH
3. CANON products (ignoring software & firmware) are superior to the rest in every way - the Miata of printers.
4. INK is used liberally to keep prints PERFECT, however much goes "down the sink" to keep the heads, et al. clean enough to do such a A+ job. The large format plotters are designed to catch this maintenance ink in a tub, which is replaced when full. Printers such as the MP830 & this MX860 do not have such a tub. Therefore, when full of maintenance disposed ink, they may short out in 3-4 years. Servicing against such a circumstance is not an option in most towns.
5. SLOW should not be a problem unless your software is crossways with either a previous version or CANON product .... or even your anit-virus/spyware. The latter problem will get no CANON support.
6. CONVENIENCE is just an easy button away. As you first learn operations, I suggest you elect to PREVIEW print formats before they get printed.
7. Compared to my shorted out MP830, this would be considered the little brother in features/capabilities but a snap to use. That said, am still figuring out envelops & other special printing tricks that are different.
8. WATTS: 21 max 4.1 standby 1.6 off
why this was not included in any literature nor on website is VERY ODD - a must for those dependant on battery backups for consistent power
9. I would have bought a more expensive CANON for my home studio business BUT locally, this was IT for 100 mile radius. Delivery options indicated 4-6 days, regardless of method.
