Pros Fast, easy to use
Cons Expensive, eye control focus not worth it
Recommended it? Yes

I'll be the first to admit that I don't know an F-stop from a G-string, but even I can take very good, professional looking pictures with the Canon EOS-3

Before I started using this Canon, my brushes with a 35mm camera were confined to the throw away cameras that you can buy at the... Read full review »

great high end amateur/pro camera with some quirks

Pros tough body, excellent AE, many custom features
Cons Eye controlled focus doesn't work for me
Recommended it? Yes

I've owned a Canon EOS-3 for 9 months now. I also own a Canon Elan IIe and a Pentax K1000.

The EOS-3 is a pro level camera that features 45-point eye focus (pioneered in the A2E and later in the Elan IIe) and advanced exposure including TTL Flash.

I equipped my EOS-3 with the... Read full review »

INTRODUCTION

My first impression with the Canon EOS-3 came with a magazine article comparing its shutter durability with 3 other leading brands. The EOS 3 outlasted the rest with more than 400,000 shutter operations while the worst performing model packed in after a little over 80,000... Read full review »

CANON EOS-3
Canon's EOS-3 is a revolutionary product for the professional photographer. What makes this body better than previous Canon bodies(and all other brands, in my opinion)? The following features were deciding factors that made me purchase the EOS-3:
-45 point autofocus

Introduction
I consider myself an amateur photographer. I've been shooting on a Pentax K-1000 for years, paired with lenses ranging from 20mm Ashai to 500mm Tokina, and had great success with the camera. However, I was merely borrowing the lenses I used from my dad, and the only part of the... Read full review »

Wonderful, but not for really for beginners

bystraightarm Dec 5, 2006
10 Helpfuls 11 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Accurate eye controlled focusing, Accurate metering, Well specified
Cons Reliant on 2CR5 batteries
Recommended it? Yes

This is sophisticated a camera and as such is not really suitable for absolute beginners, but at $875 I can not imagine many beginners buying it. To get the most out of it, you need to know your f stops from your ISO setting. There are no muppet settings such as a mountain image for landscape... Read full review »

Now roughly ten years since its introduction, I keep wondering if Canon will be updating the EOS-3 sometime soon. It's an excellent camera and has the potential to be much more. On the other hand, everyone's emphasis seems to be on digital SLRs now, so the old film cameras may not see a lot of... Read full review »

Professional Camera, Great Price

bylouisd Nov 14, 2001
7 Helpfuls 8 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Great metering, weather sealing, fast eye focus
Cons Loud shutter/mirror
Recommended it? Yes

The Canon EOS 3 is truly a camera for advanced amateurs and professionals. This system has the same features as the EOS 1V system with slightly lower specs on maximum shutter speed and film advance speed. The body is quite waterproof and feels like a pro camera in your hand. The metering system is... Read full review »

Excellent Semi-Pro Camera

byzedorzee Jul 3, 2001
7 Helpfuls 8 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Lightweight, sturdy construction, great set of features.
Cons Viewfinder coverage, not very water resistant, fairly loud action.
Recommended it? Yes

The Canon EOS 3 is a sturdy workhorse camera with the features to make most professional photographers happy, but without the bells and whistles to put it out of the price range of ambitious amateurs.

The 4.5fps frame rate is quite reasonable for most situations, and the viewfinder... Read full review »
