The Bottom Line:
Great Camera. Look at Canon before going Nikon
I bought this camera after en endless quest. I wanted to get a Nikon but the models with equal features were more expensive than Canon ones. Somebody suggested me a Canon. This was my first Canon product. My previous camera was a old Yashica FX-7. So I went for it and do not regret it. I bought along the Canon 28-90 that came with the particular deal. This model has tons of features and it could be used to shoot professional pictures too. It can go from full manual to full auto and anything in between. I also use it for skydiving and so far it has been bulletproof at 120+ mph! For this particular use I needed the possibility of manual focus, a 28 lens, a sport setting, and above all robustness. The Elan Eos has it all and has served me well. Many sky-photographers use the Rebel but I was not too crazy about the casing and the overall feel. I also take my Elan on vacation and I get nice compliments on the pictures I take from professional photographers and I am far from it! It is just a good camera and the several automatic settings really work. I heard some complains about AF in dim light. I have not had this problem. Also the built in flash is quite potent for the size. I took pictures in almost total darkness and as long as your subject is within 10 feet you have enough illumination. I know I'm just praising about it but there is really nothing bad I can say about this camera. I take it head down at almost 200 mph in free fall and it still shoots some great pictures. I like Canon. When I had to purchase my camcorder the decision was easier. I went for Canon once again. Before buying Nikon look at Canon and compare.
