The Bottom Line:
A reliable printer, copier, and scanner, that is quick, simple, and a good size.
For my birthday, I was lucky enough to get my first mac laptop from the Apple store. I was thrilled when my dad also surprised me with this amazing Canon PIXMA printer. I found out later that because of a rebate that Apple gives with new computer purchases, the printer was free! So just a little extra tidbit: if you are buying a mac from the Apple store, be sure to fill out the rebate for a free, great quality printer!
Design
This stylish, multi-functioning printer is light grey and trimmed with black. It fits just fine on top of my mid-size desk, and has retractable paper dispensers on the front and back for a cleaner look and a little extra room. The LCD screen is also on a panel that can be lifted up or down, which helps keep the buttons and screen dust free.
Copying
The copier function of this device is extremely fast and simple. With the touch of one button, you can make a black and white or color copy in under twenty seconds. You can also make up to 99 copies in a single job, without having to push copy after every individual page. It sure beats driving all the way to Kinko’s, and if you have that many copies to make you can take care of other tasks while you’re copies are printing. It also has a feature that lets you reduce or enlarge the size of your copy.
Scanning
The scanning function works equally as well as the copier. It scans quickly with no hassle at all. The scan option is easily visible on the LCD screen menu, and the scans pop up on my screen in seconds. It gives you a choice to save your scans to your computer, to a USB, as a PDF, or attach it to an email. This makes things very convenient and saves time. It also scans clear images, nothing fuzzy or grainy.
Printing
Like any good printer, the Canon PIXMA is very user friendly. Nothing is to complicated, and it doesn’t take a whole day to figure out it’s basic functions. Although it can sometimes be a little loud, it prints very smooth and quickly. Unlike my previous printer, this machine has never been jammed while printing. The only real problem I have with this printer is the lack of duplex printing. While I am trying to be more “earth friendly” I often want to print on both sides of the page. Unfortunately, I have to do this manually, and put the paper back through the dispenser and print the doubled sided pages separately. But on the plus side, it prints clean, high quality images and words.
Ink
Although the ink for this printer/copier can get pricey, you sure get your money’s worth. The color copies and prints always come out the same color I see on the computer screen or on the original copy. The ink dries quickly so there isn’t any smudges or smears. I have had this printer for over ten months, and I am only now starting to see that it will need an ink refill soon. So with moderate use, the ink should last at a minimum of ten months.
As I said, I got this printer for free, but the average cost is $100, and I think it is very much worth that. It includes plenty of features that contribute to it’s fast, efficient, and high quality production. This is a very reliable and consumer friendly printer, copier, and scanner for any home user.
