The Photographer's Point-and-Shoot Camera

byjzorns Mar 4, 2010
15 Helpfuls 16 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Full manual control, wonderful analog control rings, RAW format, F/2.0 lens, compactness
Cons Lens barrel protrudes a bit due to the front control ring.
Recommended it? Yes

Why I bought this camera:I bought this camera because I'm a demanding amateur photographer who doesn't always relish the idea of carrying my digital single lens reflex (DSLR) camera every time I want good photos. I'm the type of person Canon has marketed this camera toward. My wife is Polish and... Read full review »

The pocket-sized DSLR

bythegsrguy Nov 5, 2009
15 Helpfuls 16 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Sturdy, pocket-sized, very accurate photos, firm buttons/controls, standard Canon menus
Cons Motorized flash, clumsy control ring, so-so battery life
Recommended it? Yes

I read some early reviews and sneak-peeks about this camera and was antsy for it to be released. I'm glad I waited, as the S90 has surpassed all my expectations.

My previous camera was a Canon G9 -- no slouch when it came to performance. I bought the G9 because it gave SLR-quality photos in... Read full review »

I Am Impressed!

bykfor Oct 17, 2009
15 Helpfuls 16 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Two control rings; CCD sensor; and more settings than you know what to do with.
Cons Just a bit small for my hands; too many choices.
Recommended it? Yes

I first read about the S90 on Ken Rockwell's site.  I mulled about it for a while because despite the good write-up, spending $430 on a small "point-and-shoot" camera just seems wrong.

I was also reluctant to buy an initial issue of a camera.  Have the bugs been found and resolved?  Will it... Read full review »

Good, but not great - and fragile

bycruz3 Sep 20, 2010
10 Helpfuls 11 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Speedy, better low light performance.
Cons Low value, fragile, and zero warranty support.
Recommended it? No

Consider this a teaser review because the camera only lasted 5 days before suffering some sort of freak LCD failure that Canon wouldn't cover under warranty.

The S90 is generally viewed as the premium point and shoot alternative.  My biggest reason for getting it was performance, in... Read full review »

Excellent Image Quality, but slow response

bystephenlac Jan 11, 2010
8 Helpfuls 9 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Image quality, Small size, fully manual control functions, good dynamic range, f2.0
Cons Slow continuous shooting, easily moved controls, shutter lag, no grip, no optical...
Recommended it? Yes

This is overall a great camera. The image quality is outstanding for a P&S camera. The smaller pixel count on the same size sensor as other 14MP cameras allows for great, usable shots up to ISO 800, and acceptable shots at higher ISO's. The control ring on the front of the camera makes dialing in a... Read full review »

Great pro-mini camera

Pros Front-ring dial easy to use.<br>Low light is great.
Cons People think it is a regular cheap point-and-shoot and grab it...
Recommended it? Yes

This is a lovely smooth body that makes you want to hold on and push all the right buttons.
Knobs to twizzle with your fingers, and rings to grip, my experience has been electrifying.
This is a great little thing, especially with the lights off, it doesn't stick out when you pull it out... Read full review »

best point and shoot camera so far

Pros Easy to Use, Excellent Picture Quality, Lightweight
Cons Overpriced

I was big time Sony fan until I got introduced to this camera. Best machine ever. I was in a low light setting restaurant and took very high quality picture even without using flash. Amazing camera if you are looking for good picture quality and easy to use. You don't have to worry about changing... Read full review »

Superb point n shoot camera

bybooruwa Mar 15, 2010
Helpful? 1 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Quality Construction, Excellent Picture Quality
Cons Overpriced
Recommended it? Yes

When it comes to point n shoot digital cameras most of it falls short in terms of picture quality in low light, indoor scenes. The S90 far exceeds other cameras in its class. Having read so many reviews and trying hard to find a decent point n shoot camera im glad i finally got this. The scene... Read full review »
