A Great Upgrade for an Already Great Flash

bymilogd Jan 15, 2010
7 Helpfuls 8 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros No dead or dying battery notification, short batter life. It’s not cheap.
Cons E-TTL is excellent, and sturdy build
Recommended it? Yes

I broke by old 580EX, which was not a cheap flash to break, and decided to upgrade to the new one when replacing it. The first thing I noticed out of the box was the build. This flash is made to stay attached to the camera, and hold together. This flash was obviously made with the digital... Read full review »

Indespensible tool, changed my indoor photography style completly

bykatzer1 Sep 9, 2009
1 Helpfuls 2 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Powerfull fast recycling time, ETTL is spot on
Cons more expensive than the rest, not by much though
Recommended it? Yes

I used to use available light with fast primes and high iso for indoor shooting.
I'd still do that if for say I was taking a picture of a baby or folks with sensitives eyes but no more.
The even with fast primes and high iso, I never got a shutter speed fast enough, and then I had to... Read full review »

Does what it is supposed to

byredtripp Mar 26, 2010
Helpful? 1 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Variable Power
Cons Difficult to Use
Recommended it? Yes

This flash does what it's supposed to and I get great results with it. If you want to move beyond the auto settings it can be difficult to use for beginners. Also, the light is too harsh without a good diffuser (I expected this when I purchased it and bought a diffuser to go with it.) Works well,... Read full review »

Pros Quality Construction, Great Design, Easy to Use
Cons None submitted
Recommended it? Yes

I love this flash, for both manual mode studio work on a stand shooting into an umbrella or mounted on the camera in full ETTL mode, it works great.  It is easy to use once you learn the basics, i'm sure most people just leave it on auto mode most of the time so if that's what you want to do then... Ametuer flash masquerading as a pro unit

byclairbear_ski Nov 6, 2009
Helpful? 1 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Quality Construction, Lightweight
Cons Overpriced, Difficult to Use
Recommended it? No

I bought this flash based on recomendations. I had hoped it would meet my need but it is under powered, the light out put is at best not consistent in the manual mode and in the prgram mode it only want to user the lens wide open. After using the reliable old sunpak 522 for years this is a poor... Read full review »

Expodisc Rayflash Ring Flash Adapter For Canon 580exii

ExpoDisc Rayflash Ring Flash Adapter for Canon 580EXII ExpoImaging Rayflash, Ring Flash Adapter for Canon 580EXII Flash with Canon Rebel XT/Xti/XS/XSi DSLR's Description The Ray Flash is a unique adapter for your hot-shoe flash unit designed to replicate the lighting effect produced by traditional, expensive, and heavy powered studio ring flash units. The Ray Flash is portable and lightweight, and has been designed to take advantage of a camera's TTL metering capabilities. Because the Ray Flash relieson the hot-shoe flash to generate its light, it contains no electronics, no flash tubes and requires no cumbersome cables. The light distribution is accomplished through a sophisticated system of internal prisms, reflectors and light-shapers designed to distribute and project the light evenly around the lens. The Ray Flash creates a unique ring flash lighting effect: a three- dimensional shadow-wrapped look around the subject. Because ring flash light originates from a circle around the lens, it produces a virtual
