Worth the money, for me.
Pros
Pass-through FireWire and digitizer. Good quality camera.
Cons
OK... low light video is only adequate.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
If you are on a budget and want/need DV technology, this is a good choice.
I bought this at the "After Thanksgiving Sale" because of the Price and the Features. I have hundreds of hours of VHS and HI8 video tapes that I want to digitize and store on DVD/CD. (I was surprised how many "upper end" DVcam's do NOT have a pass-through FireWire connection!) For less than $270, I got that "digitizer" PLUS a darned good camcorder. It does an "OK" job indoors IF you turn on some lights, and it does a "GOOD" job outdoors, especially when "zoomed" and "anti-shake" is on. Face it: this is a "budget" camcorder. I have a REALLY OLD Sony VC701 that is "VERY GOOD"... still!... but in this Canon I got exactly what I was looking for - plus a little more - at a VERY affordable price. The battery life is poor on the supplied battery (no surprise there... that's what they all do) but the upgrade battery lasts through a whole tape. "Photo" is "grainy", but this is a CAMCORDER. If you want to haul 500# of cow manure, use a pickup... not your Lincoln! If you want good pictures, buy a CAMERA! And, yes, low-light is NOT great; but neither is this an $800 camcorder. What were you expecting?
