A DV Cam with great features at a great price!
Incentive to Buy
I purchased this camera at the Black Friday sale after Thanksgiving, the item was on sale for $275. It also came with a rebate for $99 in software from Pinnacle, which offers a suite of video editing and authoring programs. For the features the camera offered at this price, it...

Canon ZR80 makes fine video
Optics, the ability to deal with lighting conditions, and hand-held stability were the important factors in my buying decision. I edit my works on the computer, so effects were not important (and should be used sparingly!) The Canon ZR-80 is lightweight and well-balanced. The ability to return to... Read full review »
Very Delicate, Unreliable
I used my Canon ZR80 for about 2 years. I was happy with it for a little while. The battery life ran out very fast so I had about four batteries I had to keep charged so I wouldn't miss anything. One day the LCD image was gone. I could play back whatever was on the tape, but I couldn't record any... Read full review »
Good home video camera.
I purchased this camcorder to record video on vacation. I looked at many online reviews of comparably priced camcorders including camcorders by Samsung and Panasonic. I selected the Canon ZR80 because of my past success with the reliability of Canon products, and because Canon is famous for... Read full review »

I am happy to say I have it back...

Worked great...one time
Took it to a trip to the UK in 2004. After that one trip, no picture showed again. Canon said that it was a known problem with the camera design. They would "evaluate" it for free. Well, after I moved several times, health issues and a divorce, I finally found all the paperwork and tried to send... Read full review »
Work fine... When it works!
I have a ZR80 camcorder for 18 months. I shipped it to Canon for repair (2 months after the end of the warranty). The main board and the power circuit as been changed. 1 month after, my camcorder doesn't work again. I have to replace the CCD controller! I will not make it repair. I will never buy... Works well until hooked up to download
This is my first purchase of a smaller DV camcorder. Purchased in 2004 and used approximately 6 hours when all of a sudden the DV cable(firewire) stopped working. After extensive troubleshooting canon suggests sending to the repair center in CA or NJ. Since it is out of warranty they will not cover... Read full review »
