The Bottom Line:
Think it through before purchase, it is almost a specialized piece of equipment.
I read the first review and must say the person that submitted it was amusing to say the least. Any person with a basic understanding of optics (or who cared to educate themselves before buying an item such as this) would have understood several things.
1. With a 25mm objective lens the Relative Brightness Index (Objective Lens(mm)/Magnification) falls out thusly: At 20x: 25/20= 1.25
At 80x: 25/80= 0.3125
When compared to my set of 8x50 full size binoculars it would be:
50/8= 6.25
or perhaps my telescopic sight would be better
At 4x:
50/4= 12.5
At 14x:
50/14= 3.572
A value of 2.5 indicates good for dim light as a rule.
No wonder this 20-80x appear dim and usable only in a bright light.
Now let's address the shakiness:
I purchased my set for replacement of a spotting scope and ease of use in a hunting situation. These glasses are actually more powerful than my spotting scope and the detail, while not Zeiss or Steiner level, still doesn't to bad as I was able to make out a license plate number at approximately 1/4 mile with mine. Yes they need a solid rest/bipod/etc or they will look really shakey, but so does my 20-60x spotting scope.
