The Bottom Line:
Amazing little TV if you have the disposable cash.
While there are a lot of choices for handheld TV's on line, there aren't a lot to choose from in the stores. I chose this one based on screen size. This type of television comes in a shrink wrap pack and the store didn't have any display models to view, so I went with size. This TV has a 4" screen. 4" diagonal that is. The actual screen size is 3 1/4" x 2 3/8" so you can imagine what a 2" or 3" actual screen size must be.
The package comes with 4AA batteries and a stand so the TV can stand alone on a desk. I made them open the package at the store so that I could see if the TV worked and the quality. I was amazed that in NYC in the basement at Best Buy I was able to get a picture. Not a clear one, but I could still see it. Even though the picture was fuzzy the sound of the TV was very clear. When I got out of the store I tried it again. The picture was clear the colors were dead on and the sound amazing. When I got home I was watching a symphony concert on it and the sound was as if coming from a stereo.
The image is LCD. It looks just like the large flat panel screen TV's that hang on a wall. As I mentioned the sound is fantastic.
Tuning is automatic. I was and still am skeptical about the fine tuning of an auto search tuner, but so far no problem finding a station. There is a button called CH CALL. If you want to know what channel you are on you push the button and a red line lines up on the channel that you are on. You also see this line when you are searching stations.
You can choose UHF or VHF. The switch for that is the same as the on/off switch. You toggle between Off, VHF and UHF. There are outlets for and extension antenna, 6V /DC, and ear plug and an A/V outlet. You can also control the volume and brightness using the marked wheels. I was watching outside and the brightness wheel helped a little, but I really had to turn the TV away from the sun for the best view.
The unit feels like it is solid and well constructed. Not having actually felt the others this one does seem to have some weight to it.
I have to admit that I am hooked on this TV but I have to send it to my father in Florida who is literally sitting in the dark after a hurricane. However, I would like to get one for myself.
